Never Call Locals By Their First Names

Bahamians are pretty formal when with strangers. It is part of their culture. They will always address you by your family name with the appropriate “Mister”or “Miss,” and you should do the same. It is common courtesy. Also, handshakes are always expected. Never kiss, even on the cheek. That is not part of their culture, and will shock them, or embarass them. However, if you are a close friend of a local, first names are not a problem anymore. You have earned that right.
