Never Bring Your Passport Everywhere You Go

This should be a rule of thumb always, not just in the Bahamas. Most travellers seem to underestimate the problems that may arise if their passport gets stolen. Having your passport stolen, or misplaced will give you unnecessary hassles. It will surely ruin your vacation. So many unaware tourists have found this out the hard way. Best leave the original in the safe of the hotel, and just bring colored photocopies with you in case you need it for identification purposes. Play it smart, and avoid problems.
