Eeyore, the gloomy, depressed, cynical, grey stuffed donkey in the Winnie-the-Pooh books by A. A. Milne, has had a special place in Austin since the early 60s. This character who greets his friend a good morning but doubts if it’s a good morning, celebrates his birthday annually in Austin. A day-long festival, usually scheduled on the last Saturday of April, is named after Eeyore, who once thought his friends forgot about his birthday only to find out later that they have a surprise party planned for him. In Austin, Eeyore’s birthday blast is full of live music, food and drinks, colorful costumes, and large drum circles.
