Ellen DeGeneres

Insider

Who would’ve thought that the person who keeps reminding us to be kind to one another fails to heed her own advice? Ellen DeGeneres is famously down-to-earth, sidesplittingly self-deprecating, open about who she is, and cool to fans—or is she? It seems the widely beloved TV host who helped pave the way for LGBTQ acceptance is a big meanie behind the scenes. A former writer for The Ellen Show said that while DeGeneres wins millions over with her charm and comic timing, during rehearsals, she’d glare at the writers and deride them for writing “unfunny jokes.” The quirky comedian apparently has a nasty habit of bullying an employee each day, picking someone else to be mean to the next day.
The voice behind Dory is also big on hygiene. Perhaps even unreasonably so. She reportedly has a sensitive nose and makes people chew gum before stepping in her office to talk with her. If DeGeneres thinks you smell, you’ll be sent home to shower. Similarly, she almost had a waitress fired for having chipped nail polish when she served DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi at brunch. The waitress had been a fan and was working long hours to become a stand-up comedian herself, but she was disillusioned by the encounter, finding the talk show host petty, cruel, and toxic.
