Edward Norton

Looper

Edward Norton is one of the most talented and fascinating figures in Hollywood. But he’s also one of the most complicated and difficult people to work with. He gained immediate recognition with his breakthrough role in the 1996 thriller Primal Fear, and he has been in a string of blockbuster hits since. Throughout his career though, the star has been described as a control freak, known to try and direct every film he appears in. It’s quite rude and disrespectful to the filmmakers who cast him.
When Marvel Studios approached him to star in The Incredible Hulk, Norton agreed, but he insisted that all his suggestions be incorporated into the script. With a substantial rewrite done only weeks before filming, this resulted in a messy, drawn-out cut. Norton’s meddling may be the reason Marvel did not ask him to reprise his role in The Avengers film series. In fact, Marvel issued a statement saying they wanted an actor with a collaborative spirit, implying they didn’t see Norton working as part of an ensemble.
Notice how he flawlessly plays characters with anger issues? Primal Fear, Fight Club, The Score, The Incredible Hulk? Many say the brilliant but volatile method actor Norton portrayed in Birdman closely resembles his true self.
