Anne Josephine Robinson was born on September 26, 1944. She is more popularly well-known just as Anne Robinson. She is known by most people as the host of the BBC and NBC game show “The Weakest Link”. Robinson however did not start her career as a game show host, she began her career as a journalist for Rediffusion, then for Daily Mail, then Sunday Times and then to the Daily Mirror.
Back in 2001, the game show “The Weakest Link” became really popular in US television. And a portion of that popularity was due to the appeal of the host, Anne Robinson. Robinson was the flip side of the typical friendly energetic game show host. She was like a serious and unsmiling deadpan British person who derided contestants who failed, and released them with blunt statement of “You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye!” She would then smile at the viewers at the end of the show, to imply that her brusqueness was just part of her persona for the show.
Her brusque personality might actually not just be an act, since in October 2017, she gave her opinion regarding the #MeTooMovement; which is a movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault. Robinson told BBC Radio that four decades ago, during her time women “had a much more robust attitude to men behaving badly”. She continued with “In my day we gave them a slap and told them to grow up.” She then called it “the fragility of the women who are unable to deal with the treachery of the workplace.” Then in June 2018, she reconfirmed her previous statements, she told Daily Mail that “Maybe my lot handed them too much on the plate because suddenly there are all these wusses, clever girls getting upset about the treachery of the workplace.”
