Sexist Gene Rayburn on Match Game

Gene Rayburn was born on December 22, 1917, he lived until November 29, 1999. He was an American television and radio personality. He is most well-known as the host of the game show “Match Game”, which had different editions for two decades. “Match Game” was the game show that inspired “Family Feud”. In a nut shell, “Family Feud” is a modified version of Match Game’s final round. But the rest of “Match Game” was quite different. On “Match Game”, a contestant simply had to match fill-in-the-blank answers with a celebrity from a panel of guests, with the guidance of the host.
On the show, Gene Rayburn customarily had a repartee with contestants and panelists that by modern standards would be considered sexist, racist or just straight out offensive. It was a product of the 1970s, so these antics were considered to be acceptable back then. In one episode, Rayburn makes one of the panelist Elaine Joyce stand up to show her outfit. In a different episode, Rayburn gropes Joyce, she then calls him out on it, then he just laughs it off. Rayburn was definitely enjoying the moments when he got to do these things. At times, what was “acceptable in the 70s” shouldn’t have been.
