Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

The first movie was not a flop, in fact it was very successful. But writer-director Guillermo del Toro let loose all the monsters he dreamt about in Hellboy II. it was by no means a traditional superhero movie. The sequel was also more fun, and the concept embraces more fantastical elements of the Hellboy comics. This is where del Toro really shines. Also, making the hero not as powerful and almighty makes the plot more interesting, especially when people realize there is a much stronger, more dangerous force. It was not really a scary movie, but it did keep audiences at the edge of their seats. If that isn’t evidence of a great sequel, we don’t know what is.
