Many consider this not only the best Batman film, but the best superhero film ever made. Particular reference is made for Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker. A villain can make or break a movie, and Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance bests all the villains in other movies. Christopher Nolan directed, co-produced, and co-wrote the film. Using also well known actors to play the roles was also part of its popularity. Christian Bale as Batman was aptly supported by Ledger (Joker), Gary Oldman (James Gordon), Michael Caine (Alfred), and others. The film grossed over $1 billion, and was a co-production of the US and UK. Ledger was posthumously awarded Best Supporting Actor. The film also won the award for Best Sound Editing.
