The Godfather Part II (1974)

Probably the most known sequel of all. The Godfather movie (1972) was Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning triumph. And yet, he managed to top that with the sequel, The Godfather Part II. In fact, it was the first sequel to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Robert de Niro and Al Pacino were responsible for beating a masterpiece of an original movie. The flashbacks done using Robert de Niro helped elevate the mob movie. Of course, Al Pacino was great in both movies. But the addition of another legendary actor made the sequel much better. It is hard to top an award-winning movie with a sequel, many critics simply won’t think it could match up. Well, the Godfather Part II proved them wrong.
