Probably one of the worst murder cases for anyone to have witnessed was that of the African American James Byrd Jr. Lawrence Russell Brewer and two other accomplices had seen Byrd walking down a rather empty road in Texas when they abducted him, beat him to near death, peed on his broken body and worse, took Byrd’s ankles and tied him to their truck and dragged his body behind them as they drove down the rough road. Even worse than that was when forensics figured out that Byrd only died after his head was decapitated from his body when the truck hit a culvert on the road, and not during all the horrible beatings and assault that occurred before he was tied up and dragged to his death.
