James Smith

Manchester Evening News

Back in 1962, a man named James Smith had walked inside a candy shop owned by a 56-year old lady named Sarah Isabella Cross. He had the intent of robbing the lady’s ‘sweetshop’ of £6 (roughly translated to $8.40), but while he was there, he battered and beat her with bottles until she died. The smashed bottles, as well as his fingerprints, were found in the shop on a wet doorknob that had just been painted two days before. The police were able to identify him since his prints had been taken from a prior conviction.
