The tennis world suffered a big blow with the retirement early this year of two of the sport’s hottest and biggest stars in Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova. Good thing we still have Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard, who received a wild-card entry to this year’s French Open after her runner-up finish at the Istanbul Open, to the delight of tennis fans around the world. The Canadian’s ranking has fallen as of late and was ranked at just 168 going into the tournament, a far cry from her career best ranking of number five back in 2014. That year, she reached the finals of Wimbledon and the semifinals of the Australian and French Open grand slam tournaments on her way to receiving the WTA Most Improved Player award at the end of the season. Her breakout year paved the way for endorsement deals, including those from Nike, Coca-Cola, and Aviva. Coupled with her stunning appearance, she was listed as number one in the “World’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes 2015” list by London-based media company SportsPro.
