The 30-year-old surfer has a two-year old son with partner Jack Freestone, an Australian professional surfer, and the two had plans of tying the knot by the end of the year until the pandemic screwed the couple’s plans. Alana is also known as the close friend of Bethany Hamilton, better known as the young surfer who lost her arm in a horrific tiger shark attack and whose life story was featured in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer. Alana was actually also surfing with her at Tunnels beach when Bethany got attacked on that fateful day. The two met at Kilauea Elementary School as kids and has remained friends through the years. Things took a different turn for the Hawaiian when fans noticed the absence of the familiar logo on her surfboard. She then announced that she had parted ways with long-time sponsor, Rip Curl, citing that her motherhood was the main reason the brand ended its partnership with her. In the emotional video she released, she said that the company stopped using her after she got pregnant and added, “they (Rip Curl) really didn’t like that I had a kid.”
