Eating Grass

minutemedia

You have probably seen your dog munching on the grass in the backyard and notice them vomiting after. Why do they do this? Dogs may be eating grass when they are bored, stressed, or looking for nutrients. Dogs have always been identified as scavengers, and as such, cannot be easily identified as either carnivore or omnivore. Dogs today treat plants as an alternative food source and since grass is what you will usually find in backyards or lawns, this is what they turn to. They may also look at grass as a natural remedy for an upset stomach, and eating it induces vomiting due to the grass blade tickling the throat and stomach lining. Though not considered harmful in itself, grass can be dangerous to dogs if they are treated with herbicides and pesticides.
