A common behavior among dogs, tail chasing may be their way of expending their energy or blowing off steam when they’re bored or when they’re stressed. It may seem funny to us but it doesn’t chase its tail just because they see it moving and their instinct tells them to give chase. To dogs, it is their way of connecting their front end with their hind end. Puzzling? When dogs are stimulated, they feel like their body is cut in half, with its consciousness centered on its head and can’t feel a thing. Dogs need to be in contact with their surroundings so they can feel connected to their body. They need to come in contact with external objects to feel a thing so they may even have no idea that they are chasing a part of their own body.
