Licking People’s Faces

mnn

Probably the most common habit of dogs, licking people, particularly their owner, is their sign of greeting, way of getting attention, or affection, hence the term “doggie kisses.” They also like the taste of the salt on the skin and doing so allows their body to release pleasurable endorphins that gives them calm and comfort, while also relieving stress. If you allow it, your dog will likely lick your face, especially after you have eaten something. But it can also be a sign of communication or submission. This trait is an instinct they have gotten from young wolf pups who lick their mother’s face or muzzle in order for her to feed them by regurgitating food from a hunt.
