You also might think that it’s gross when your dog eats poo and that’s because it is. Known as coprophagia, it’s a common habit among dogs, and other animals too. Puppies are more prone to do this, and the reason they’re doing it is because of curiosity. They are attracted to the scent, which they don’t find disgusting, plus the fact that they are natural scavengers who may have smelled the food in the feces. It can also be a sign of boredom, stress, or a way of getting attention. Another reason is for cleanliness, especially when they get some sort of punishment for pooping inside the house, for example. Though not generally harmful to them, the habit can be best stopped by potty training them.
