Rolling On Stinky Things

Dogs may share some habits with people like yawning or sighing, but rolling on stinky stuff like poop is not one of them (normally). A dog’s sense of smell is at least several thousand times more powerful than a human’s, and what people consider revolting may actually be more appealing to them. Another reason may be traced to their ancestors who depend on hunting for food, and who used to roll on poop to mask their scent from predators or potential prey. It is also thought of as a way to put their scent on the ground, thus marking their territory, or to tell other dogs in the pack where they have been. There may be other theories, but a simpler explanation would be because they’re pooches, and that’s how they roll.
