She is the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. She inherited his stock in Apple and Disney. She founded the Emerson Collective in 2004, an LLC that focuses on social justice issues and immigration, education, and environment reform. It is named after Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of her favorite writers. The company grew slowly, her work took a back seat to raising her three children and managing the care of her husband, Steve Jobs, who eventually lost the battle to cancer in 2011. The Emerson Collective was not really known in Silicon Valley, Laurene wanted it that way. But it soon was in the spotlight with many known personalities joining her in her programs and campaigns. She continues to be active in her special kind of philanthropy.
