American billionaire and daughter of B. Wayne Hughes, the founder and chairman of Public Storage, a self-storage company. She is the largest single shareholder of the company with 11%. Tamara joined the firm in 1983. She rose to vice-president before leaving in 2003 to raise her children. Four years later, she returned as a board member. She also sits on the board of another of her father’s companies, American Homes 4 Rent, a publicly traded REIT focusing on single-family rental homes. She often donates to HollyRod Foundation, which researches autism, Parkinson’s, and other diseases and conditions. She now lives at Spendthrift Farm, the racehorse breeding farm. It is also home to the stallion Cloud Computing, winner of the 2017 Preakness.
