Back in 2003, the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was released, and it was a film unlike any other at that time. The plot was basically about a guy who was trying to remove the memory of his ex-girlfriend from his brain, and a role that wasn’t the usual kind that Kate Winslet usually plays. After having starred in Titanic with Leonardo DiCaprio, Winslet explained that this movie opened up new doors for more serious roles. She said, “I think creatively it opened people’s eyes to other sides of myself as a performer. I think that perhaps if it hadn’t been for that, maybe I wouldn’t necessarily have been considered for something like The Reader. I was able to show my versatility in Eternal Sunshine, and versatility obviously expands in all kinds of different directions.”
