Never Think All Beaches Are For Swimming

While there are several beaches great for swimming, not all are safe. If you see a warning sign in Iceland, anywhere for that matter, take it seriously. The popular beach at Reynisfjara, for example, has claimed a few lives. It is notorious for strong undercurrents and rip tides. Do not even stand close to the sea, with your back turned towards the waves as in posing for a selfie. If a bad wave hits you, it will drag you under into the depths. Several tourists have been victims for not taking the warning signs seriously. There are many dangers in Iceland, so locals try to keep people safe, but if you don’t listen, you are the only one to blame should anything untoward happen.
