Don’t Act Like A Tourist

When wandering around in the streets of the capital, Lima, for example, don’t make yourself a prime candidate for pickpockets by acting like an obvious tourist, carrying large amounts of cash or flashing expensive gadgets or personal effects like cameras or phones. Be especially cautious of locals who attempt to stop you to ask you questions. Don’t be rude, but don’t stop walking as well, as this is a tactic of pickpockets who will surround you, then overwhelm and distract you if you stop.  Always be mindful of your surroundings and your belongings, especially in the more populated areas.
