The yellowy, sweet, carbonated soft drink Inca Kola is a very popular and iconic drink in Peru.  Often described as tasting like bubble gum, don’t make the mistake of partnering your meal with Coca-Cola instead of Inca Kola when eating out.  The drink has been marketed with such a patriotic flair, actually appealing to national pride that it has been touted as El sabor del Perú (the taste of Peru) or La bebida del sabor nacional (the drink of national flavor), which allowed it to beat soda giant Coco-Cola in sales.  It has even managed to squeak into fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Bembos (a local chain) which exclusively sells Coca-Cola products.
