Don’t Do These Gestures

Gestures have different meanings or connotations depending on where you are so be mindful as some of those that you are used to doing without any bad intent or malice can be taken very differently.  When asking someone to come over, don’t use your fist and one moving finger as this is considered a rude gesture in Peru.  Instead, place your open hand in front of you, and with your palm down, perform the sweeping gesture down towards yourself.  When sitting down and crossing your legs, do not cross them by resting the ankle of one leg on the knee of the other as this is considered inappropriate.  It’s better to cross your legs at the knee.
