Born Jo Raquel Tejada, Raquel Welch is an icon of the 60s and 70s due to her portrayal of strong female characters. She eventually broke the mold of the archetypal sex symbol, and was party credited with ending Hollywood’s vigorous promotion of the blonde bombshell archetype. In 1995, she was chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in Film History. In 2011, Men’s Health magazine ranked her number 2 in their “Hottest Women of All Time” list. She is now 79 years old and considers herself a feminist.
