Jayne Kennedy is an actress, model, and sportscaster. In 1970, she was the first African American woman to be crowned Miss Ohio, going on to become one of the ten finalists for Miss USA. She married actor and writer Leon Isaac Kennedy, and they eventually moved to Hollywood to pursue careers in entertainment. She had many roles in different series, including “Shaft”, “Kojak”, “Sanford and Son”, “Starsky and Hutch”, and the “Six Million Dollar Man”. In 1978, she broke into the world of professional football and became the first female sportscaster on NFL Today.
The 70s really was a time for women to empower themselves and become strong role models for the generations of women who came after. These icons continue to inspire us to this day.
