Lynda Jean Cordova Carter was crowned Miss World USA 1972 before going on to star as the titular character for Wonder Woman, based on the DC comic book from 1975 to 1979. She became pretty much an overnight success as Wonder Woman, and she embodies the character for generations of people.
She is a staunch advocate and supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pro-Choice rights for women, and legal equality for LGBT people. She was the Grand marshal for the 2011 Phoenix Pride Parade, and the 2011 New York Pride Parade, as well as the 2013 Capital Pride Parade in Washington D.C. She was known for struggling with alcoholism but has become a spokesperson for recovery and living each day at a time.
