Bridging The Gap

One of the most important infrastructures for the North Vietnamese forces was the Ho Chi Minh trail, named after the North Vietnamese president, Ho Chi Minh. Originally known as the Truong Son Road, it ran from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through Cambodia and Laos. A combination of truck routes, bicycle, and footpaths, it served as the North’s main military route to supply troops and weapons to the south, and as a result, was attacked and bombed relentlessly by the American forces. However, it remained open despite these attacks, as the North spared no expense nor effort in having damages rebuilt. In the photo above, a group of NVA engineers are working on a bridge on the trail.
