Women Preparing For War

Fickr

Female Vietnamese soldiers are shown here being briefed at a camp in South Vietnam. Though women in the Vietnamese military largely served in the medical or logistics division, a lot of them were active in combat, especially for those in the Viet Cong. Most of them had been youth volunteers and they were fighting in the frontlines, spying on the enemy forces, laying on booby traps, and even driving trucks on the Ho Chi Minh trail. This was also a way for their military to inspire the men and boost their morale, especially in combat situations. In the south, Saigon also had a military school for women paramilitary volunteers.
