Taking Advantage Of The Downtime

A soldier is pictured reading about the war in a magazine while another is enjoying a haircut while enjoying some downtime in their bunker. The war may have lasted two decades, but the soldiers did not spend every single day of it slugging it out with the Viet Cong in a firefight. There’s actually a lot of downtime that soldiers consider them boring. They’re not exactly just sitting around, but a lot of them can go for a week or two without anything “exciting” happening, like when doing patrols. In fact, of the more than 2 million soldiers who served, around three-quarters of them were in supporting roles, which meant they were living in relative comfort while the combat soldiers were out on the frontlines.
