The golfing sensation Lorena Ochoa Reyes was born and raised in Guadalajara. She took up golf when she was five, won her first state event when she was six and her first national event when she was seven. When she turned 11, she told golf professional and winner of the Canadian Amateur Championship, Rafael Alarcon, that she wanted to be the best player in the world. She asked the golf legend who also practiced at the Guadalajara Country Club to help her with her game. Young Lorena went on to win consecutive titles at the Junior World Golf Championships and found more success in collegiate golf. She dropped out of college in her sophomore year to turn pro, winning three events at the 2002 Futures Tour. She qualified for the 2003 LPGA Tour and won the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award. She was the highest-ranked female golfer in the world from April 2007 till her retirement in May 2010, and in 2017, she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Considered as the best Mexican golfer and the best Latin American female golfer of all time, the retired professional golfer has a net worth of $15 million.
