The Spizzirris did more research to assess how Joyce’s house measured up against other retro homes. There’s a 1955 Texas ranch house with big windows, pine walls, pastel hues, and tiled floors, with a selling price that dropped from $239,000 to $170,000. There’s also a property that went on the market in San Antonio, Texas that maintained all its original 1970s décor and was listed at $355,000. A little more similar to Joyce’s brick home was a bungalow in St. Louis, Missouri, built and furnished in the 1950s, but it had never been occupied by anyone, and it’s now offered for $129,000. Then there’s a four-bedroom mid-century modern property in Palm Springs, California, with an interior featuring many 1960s design that was left completely untouched. This used to be the home of the famous interior designer Arthur Elrod, and it was sold for over $2 million.
Though Joyce was no Arthur Elrod, and asking for $2 million was too much, her 1950s and 60s interior design, along with the pristine condition of her home, made the Jane Street property very special. Its location in Toronto’s Old Mill neighborhood also made it even more desirable, and the Spizzirris would make sure to find the house Joyce lovingly cared for over a long period of time the perfect new homeowners.
