It seems that GM didn’t learn from Chrysler’s Plymouth Prowler. The Chevy SSR was another hot rod try-hard, with a slick convertible top. But the chassis and mechanicals for the SSR were borrowed from GM’s corporate midsize SUV program. This made the car heavy, underpowered, and unforgivably lazy. The SSR also violated a principle of hotrodding. Hot rods are customized, home-made versions of an existing vehicle. There really are no factory hot rods. Why some car companies tried to convince customers their vehicle was a hot rod is amazing. Well, they paid the price for their mistakes.
