There is a story that goes around about a Vega that fell apart after an 8-mile test run, with the Chairman of Chevrolet at the wheel. True or not, it depicts what the Vega was all about. Built as a subcompact automobile in the early 1970s, it became widely known for several problems related to its engineering, reliability, safety, durability, and propensity to rust. Sections of the body were not coated and would rust. The engine guzzled oil and there were complaints of excessive shaking. It also almost always overheated. Why it was allowed on the road was a puzzle. Thankfully, it was out of production by 1977.
