Former GM executive John Z. De Lorean was a snappy dresser, and an automotive icon. By the time he got the factory in Northern Ireland running, losses were piling up fast. The car was heavy, underpowered, and overpriced. Few car projects were more troublesome than the DMC-12. And De Lorean was having a few dramas of his own…with a hidden camera sting showing him in a hotel room with suitcases full of money negotiating supply and demand of nose candy. The FBI target left behind over 8,500 stainless steel De Loreans when he packed up. It was a cool looking car though, maybe why it was featured as the time travelling car in the Back To The Future movies. But many owners surely don’t want to travel back to the time when they purchased the vehicle.
