Austin Allegro

Let’s go across the ocean once again for another legendary British disaster. The Allegro had a mechanical problem where the front axle would collapse. Aside from this major flaw, it had several dimension issues. It looked like a series of metal bubbles pasted together with a soldering iron. When it was jacked up, the body would flex. Jacking up would be done frequently, and some people thought the flexing of the body was from jacking on the wrong spot. Another comical feature was the “quartic” steering wheel, rectangular with rounded sides. Reinventing the wheel just went too far here.
