Some foreign tourists may not be aware of some customs a nation has, particularly a muslim country. In Iran, no kissing, hugging, or putting your arms around a loved one. Holding hands is tolerated, but frowned upon. You surely will get stares from the locals. And you are not allowed to shake hands with the opposite sex either. Touching a person of the opposite sex is forbidden. Even men are hesitant to shake hands, but will reciprocate if you offer your hand (that is if you are male) as a gesture so as not to embarass you. But it is better to greet another person with your hands kept to the sides, it may take some getting used to, but keep it in mind.
