Iran’s local currency is the Rial (IRR), and you probably won’t be able to buy it in banks in most countries. You will have to exchange your cash when you get to Iran. also know that because of sanctions, foreign credit and debit cards will not be accepted. As soon as you land at the airport, look for an exchange agency or a bank to exchange your cash. Note that the banks will have worse rates as compared to a foreign exchange agency. Exchange enough cash so that you will not have to keep going back to often. You may also get a Mah Card, which is a “tourist card” that you can use like an ATM card. Don’t think your dollars or pounds will be accepted. It won’t, and you probably will get people mad at you, so try to remember.
