South African Joe Ramonetha was killed after an attack by a white lion at the Parys Zoo Farm in Johannesburg. The 63-year old zookeeper, who came out of retirement due to staff shortages, was feeding some lions in a passageway when the lion chanced upon him, after a security gate was reportedly left open. Ramonetha, who was left vulnerable to the attack, was bitten on the neck by Nyanga, a 10-year old white lioness. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
