Diane Whipple was a lacrosse player who was fatally mauled in a dog attack in San Francisco in January 26, 2001. She was on her way home to her apartment carrying groceries when she was suddenly attacked and torn apart by her neighbor’s Perro de Presa Canario dogs. The two huge dogs, named Bane and Hera, were said to have been rescued from an illegal dogfighting ring, which could probably explain the reason for their aggressive behavior.
