Jaren Ashley Hare, 19, and her boyfriend, Charles Darnell, 32, were both charged with manslaughter and neglect and sentenced to 12 years in prison when Jaren’s 2-year old daughter, Shaiuunna Hare, was found dead after being strangled by their pet albino Burmese python in their home in Florida. The couple, who had been previously investigated for substance abuse, woke up to find their pet, Gypsy, coiled around the body of Shaiunna and tried to save her by stabbing the python but it was too late, as the child was already crushed and had died of asphyxiation.
