Bryan Jeffrey Griffin was swimming in the waters of Dead River in Lake County, Florida when he was attacked by an alligator. The 12-year old had friends watching him from the shore who saw the alligators and yelled for him to get out of the water, but a 10-foot reptile caught Bryan with its jaws and dragged him underneath. It surfaced with the boy once but disappeared again, and it took rescuers about half an hour to retrieve him and bring him to the hospital, where he eventually died.
