Bethany Hamilton was a young surfer who lost her left arm after a shark attack while surfing in the waters of Tunnels Beach in Kauai in October 21, 2003. The 13-year-old girl survived an encounter with a 14-foot tiger shark but lost an arm, as well as about 60% of her blood in the process. Just a month after her ordeal, she was back in the water doing what she loves most: surfing. Her story would later become a movie, Soul Surfer, while Bethany would go on to become a top professional surfer.
