Whatever we know about Oxana, called the “dog-girl”, was passed on orally by doctors and caretakers. Authorities tried to keep the case a secret, and partially succeeded. Not much is known about Oxana, her background, her parents, and what future she would have. Eventually after she was examined, she was brought to an orphanage. There she quickly made friends with the animals, particularly the dogs. It was said that she even tried to smuggle a pup into her room to care for it, just as she was cared for when she was young. But, she had a difficult time relating to other children. It would be difficult for her to re-enter human society.
