Sofia Vergara personifies Gloria Pritchett, Jay’s much younger and gorgeous Colombian wife who isn’t afraid to say what’s exactly on her mind. Despite her clashes with her stepdaughter who happens to be older than she is, Claire and Mitchell realize and accept she’s not a manipulative gold-digger with a heavy accent. Phil has an obvious crush on the busty beauty, much to Claire’s chagrin, and her son, Manny, is embarrassed because she reveals too much skin (at least once causing Luke to walk into a wall).

Just like her character, Vergara is Colombian and is also quite loud, joking that sometimes, the crew places tape over her mouth to shush her. Vergara was discovered by a photographer while she was strolling on a beach in Colombia, and she made her first appearance in a Pepsi commercial aired in Latin America.
