At the start of the TV series, Manny was an overweight, young boy who cared immensely about his appearance, and by Season 10, Manny’s an overweight young man who’s still concerned about making the right impression. At one point, Manny’s family thought he was gay and suspected his Canadian girlfriend was made up. His girlfriend turned out to be real—real enough to stay at Jay and Gloria’s home and drive them nuts with her improv and imitations.

In 2015, Rodriguez landed the title role in Endgame, a biographical movie about the teacher, Jose Juan Guajardo. He also voiced several characters in animated film and TV shows, including El Americano: The Movie, Kick Buttowski, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, and The Lion Guard. Rodriguez has won several awards, counting the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, the Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Performers in a TV Series, the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV: Male Breakout Star, the ALMA Award for Favorite TV Actor-Supporting Role in a Comedy, and the Image Award for Best Young Actor in Television. In 2012, he published “Reel Life Lessons… So Far,” a book filled with witty anecdotes about the actor’s life on and off set.
