In a heartbreaking episode where she gets rejected by Harvard, her dream university, Alex confesses to Haley how upset she was because she’s done more than her best her entire life only to be declined, but she picked up the pieces and is currently majoring in biochemistry at Caltech.

After a distressing childhood with a physically and emotionally abusive mother, Winter was officially and legally emancipated from her parents in 2016. In 2017, she was accepted in Yale, Princeton, and UCLA. She decided to attend UCLA, majoring in political science because she has always been interested in law and she wants to form a charity for abused children and adults.

She continues to work in TV and film animation, including Sofia the First, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and Ice Age: The Meltdown. Like her co-stars in Modern Family, Winter has won awards such as the Young Artist Awards for Outstanding Young Ensemble in a TV Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
