From a stay-at-home mom to the president of Pritchett’s Closets & Blinds, running her father’s company after he retired, the perfectionist boss lady gets things done at home and at work—most of the time, unless her underhanded methods backfire. She can also be terribly tactless, especially when she told her newly pregnant stepmom, Gloria, “You’re going to get so fat.” Claire Dunphy can be arrogant, controlling, and abrasive, but she’s also very dependable, compassionate, and committed to her family.

Bowen has since received several awards and nominations, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Today, the mother of three—both on the show and in real life, states she has become more conservative because of motherhood.
